From survey data to structural models

Point clouds, CT scans and photogrammetric surveys describe what a structure looks like, not how it behaves. Bridging the two requires meshing strategies that tolerate noise, occlusions and non-manifold geometry.

Masonry and historical constructions

Masonry is discontinuous, anisotropic and history-dependent. I work on models that keep the texture visible where it matters and homogenise it where it does not.

  • Damage, plasticity and frost-induced deterioration
  • Seismic assessment of towers and monumental buildings

Numerical methods

  • Locking-free shell and beam finite elements
  • Virtual element methods (VEM) on general polytopal meshes
  • A-priori and a-posteriori error estimation
  • Hybrid and physics-informed neural network surrogates
